Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a therapeutic massage technique

that incorporates smooth, heated stones—typically made of basalt, a volcanic rock that retains heat well—to enhance relaxation and muscle relief.

The stones are warmed to a safe temperature (usually between 110–130°F or 43–54°C) and either placed strategically on key points of the body (such as the back, hands, or feet) or used directly by the therapist to glide over muscles during the massage.

This method combines elements of traditional massage with heat therapy, allowing deeper penetration into tissues without excessive pressure.

How It Works

  • Preparation: The therapist heats the stones in water or a specialized heater. Clients lie on a massage table, often with stones placed under them for support.

  • Application: Stones are positioned on acupressure points or areas of tension to warm and loosen muscles. The therapist may then use oiled stones to perform strokes similar to Swedish massage, promoting blood flow and easing knots.

  • Duration: Sessions typically last 60–90 minutes, and the heat helps the body absorb massage oils or lotions more effectively.

Benefits

Hot stone massage is popular for its potential to:

  • Relieve muscle stiffness and chronic pain (e.g., from conditions like arthritis or fibromyalgia).

  • Improve circulation and reduce inflammation.

  • Promote deep relaxation, lower stress levels, and enhance sleep quality.

  • Boost overall well-being by stimulating the body's natural healing processes.

Cautions and Considerations

While generally safe when performed by a trained professional, it's not suitable for everyone. Avoid it if you have:

  • Open wounds, burns, or skin infections.

  • Blood clotting disorders, heart conditions, or are pregnant (consult a doctor first).

  • Sensitivity to heat, as improper stone temperature can cause burns. Always communicate with your therapist about any health concerns.

Our trained professional massage therapists use targeted techniques, such as deep tissue manipulation and soothing Swedish strokes, to release muscle tension and promote deep relaxation, allowing your body and mind to unwind effortlessly. By addressing knots, improving circulation, and reducing inflammation, they effectively alleviate physical pain and chronic stress, leaving you rejuvenated and balanced.
